Philip Alcott - The Ship Builder

Philip Alcott's ship building interest began in the early 1950's after serving in the British Royal Navy.  That was when he carved a model of the Santa Maria from an oak gate post.  Since then he has completed over 60 ship models including several scratch built from plans and all works of art.  There have been many sizes and types:  a canoe, schooners, whaling ships, Chinese junk, a riverboat, Viking ship, a tug boat and several Men of War to name just a few.  At one point his interest turned to WWII planes and battleships.  Many of these models were purchased and consequently donated to the Fall River Museum in Massachusetts.  His extensive knowledge of history, all things nautical and a strict adherence to detail assure the accuracy of each and every model.  Almost all his ships are plank on frame construction.  Many have a double planked hull using the finest woods, including walnut, cherry, oak, mahogany and sappeli.  Fittings are usually brass, some are handmade wooden parts, all to perfect scale.  Every model is a ship of history or representative of a nautical era.

Some of these beautiful handmade models are for sale at the Five and Ten Store.  Visit "His Dockyard" to view detailed photos.  New ships are added to the Store display when available.
